Fringe Festival

fringefamilySummer is the time for being outdoors, and SummerFest is the place for great outdoor activities! Come early for a performance and enjoy music, dance, storytellers, and more on the stage on the green. Bring your own picnic to savor on the lawn, or purchase a savory treat from our onsite caterer, Fabled Table.

All of the fringe festival events are perfect for families, and completely free!

Picnics on the Lawn

The great lawn directly in front of The Hillman Center for Performing Arts is a wonderful setting for a summer picnic and a great place for family and friends to enjoy the early evening prior to performances.  picnicBring your own basket, or picnic via Fabled Table, offering fresh and “grilled to order” picnic fare on site.

Please enjoy alcoholic beverages only on the designated patio, where wine and soft drinks will be served at intermission and after the performance.

 

 

Opera Previews

musicscoreJoin our Resident Stage Directors for an informal free talk 45 minutes before each mainstage opera performance.  Learn background on composers, historical framework, and information specific to the SummerFest productions.  Previews will be held in the Richard E. Rauh Theater of The Hillman Center for Performing Arts.

 

Cabaret Under the Stars

cabaretStay after your evening performance and join us on the patio for a beverage.  Meet and mingle with the extraordinary singers you have just heard, and hear the stars of the future as our Young Artists sing your favorite opera and musical theater selections.

Winners of the recent Opera Champion of Pittsburgh competition present a recital of their favorite arias.

5:00–5:30 pm   Latin Dance with Jamey Stewart & Savannah Smith
Don’t just be a passive spectator! Learn some basic steps you can use on the dance floor.

5:30–6:00 pm   Undercroft Opera
Don’t miss excepts from Undercroft Opera’s new production of Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah (1955).

Now in its 5th decade, hear one of the areas most acclaimed professional symphonies perform works by Mozart, Strauss, Beethoven, and Dvorak.

5:00–5:30 pm   Pittsburgh Savoyards
Opera’s cousin, the operetta, reached new heights with the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. The Savoyards present both favorites and surprises.

5:30–6:00 pm   Pittsburgh Area Slovak Folk Ensemble
Prefer instead the intricate rhythms and melodies of European folkdance? The Pittsburgh Area Slovak Folk Ensemble will thrill and delight.
