Join us on October 29th and 30th for the sixth annual Mildred Miller International Voice Competition as we search for America's best singers. Young professionals aged 18–32 compete for cash prizes and solo roles in SummerFest 2017.

The panel of judges includes Mildred Miller Posvar, Robert Chafin, Robert Croan, Danielle Pastin, Eugene Perry, and special guest George Shirley.

Semi-Final Round

Saturday 29 October 2016
11:00 am–1:00 pm and 3:00–6:00 pm

Free admission

Hear each of the 23 semi-finalists as they sing for the panel of judges throughout the day. Come for the entire day (enjoy a lunch break at a nearby restaurant!), or come and go as you like.

Final Round and Halloween Masquerade

Sunday 30 October 2016
2:00–5:00 pm

General admission tickets on Sunday include the finals round and presentation of prizes. Hear eight world-class finalists competing for the top prizes at the lovely Frick Art and Historical Center auditorium. Vote for your favorite singer, stroll the galleries, and enjoy a glass of bubbly as the judges deliberate—then discover who wins!  Afterwards celebrate with the winners at a Halloween masquerade in the magnificent ballroom of the (haunted!) Benedum house hosts Lee Knox, Dan Smith, and OTP founder Mildred Miller Posvar. Hats and masks available at the door... or come in costume!

Halloween Masquerade
Enjoy an festive reception with Opera Theater founder Mildred Miller Posvar and the competition winners in the spectacular ballroom of the former Benedum house, with hosts Lee Knox and Dan Smith, immediately following the presentation of prizes. A $125 VIP ticket provides priority seating for the competition finals and the private reception with wine, Blue Diamond Vodka, and hors d'oeuvres. Don your hats, masks, and costumes while Tom Roberts tickles the ivories! Detailed directions and parking information for the Benedum house will be sent to VIP ticket holders.

Four prizes will be awarded

  • First Prize (underwritten by Phyllis Sidwell) totaling $7,000 which includes a $4,000 contract for a lead role in the 2017 SummerFest as a Resident Artist.

  • Second Prize (underwritten by Pete Geissler) totaling $5,000 which includes a $3,000 contract for a lead role in the 2017 SummerFest as a Resident Artist.

  • Third Prize (underwritten by an anonymous donor) totaling $3,000 which includes a $2,000 contract for a lead role in the 2017 SummerFest as a Resident Artist.

  • Robert Chafin Audience Favorite Award, totaling $1,000.

Winners from previous years, including Andrey Nemzer, Juan José de León, and Shannon Kessler Dooley, have recently appeared in roles with the Metropolitan Opera. What talented singer will follow them this year?
