Mildred Miller International Voice Competition

As a part of OPERA America's National Opera Week celebration (26 October–04 November, 2012), Opera Theater held the 2012 Mildred Miller International Voice Competition on Saturday 03 November–Sunday 04 November in Pittsburgh. The competition is designed to identify and reward professional and pre-professional singers aged 35 years and younger.

From an initial pool of 154 applicants, 20 singers were chosen and invited to Pittsburgh for the semi-final competition round on Saturday 03 November. A panel of judges, consisting of Marianne Cornetti, Robert Croan, Jane Eaglen, Eugene Perry, and Mildred Miller Posvar) selected six singers to perform in a live audience final audition round at 2:00pm on Sunday November 4.

The six finalists were Joseph Barron, Lara Lynn Cottrill, Shannon Kessler Dooley, Joseph Lattanzi, Stephanie Lauricella, and Juan José de León.

Each singer was given a fifteen minute slot in which to sing two or three numbers, the first a number of their own choosing, the second one of their own or the judges’ choosing, and a possible third that could be requested by the judges.
